SCLS has staff attorneys and volunteer lawyers that are primarily dedicated to the practice of family law. They provide direct and indirect services to clients. In addition, SCLS provides several family law legal clinics.
Family Law Clinic
COVID-19 UPDATE: Due to COVID-19, the Family Law Clinic is being conducted via telephone. Once we receive a case from CLEAR, a staff member will out to the client to schedule a telephone appointment with an attorney. Our staff members are working remotely and are checking voice messages regularly from their homes.
Every Tuesday from 5:30pm to 8:00pm, staff and volunteer attorneys hold a Family Law Advice Clinic to provide legal advice, review pro se-prepared documents, and assist clients with preparation of motions and other court documents. Although the majority of the work done by volunteer attorneys is advice and counsel, the volunteer attorneys may use the clinic time to provide brief services by drafting legal documents or letters for the client. Representation for court/hearings cannot be guaranteed, but many cases are referred to attorneys for additional services.
Dissolution Class
COVID-19 UPDATE: Our bi-monthly Dissolution Class is currently being conducted via video and email. Once we receive a case from CLEAR, a staff member will reach out to the client to schedule an appointment. Attendance is by appointment only.
Twice a month, a staff or volunteer attorney provides instruction and an educational presentation of the divorce process in Snohomish County. Clients are provided with the initial paperwork that is needed to file a divorce action. Clients will not receive legal advice specific to their individual case at this class, but will be referred to an attorney if additional services are needed.
